AN EXCITING SHOW FOR AIRBUS & BOEING

The 49th Annual Paris Air Show was a successful one for aircraft manufacturers this year, with Airbus booking orders/commitments for an unprecedented 730 aircraft worth $72b, while Boeing booked orders/commitments for 142 aircraft worth >$22b.

Airbus orders included a record-setting order from AirAsia for 200 A320neo aircraft. “When I went to the board last year to have approval for the A320neo, I promised strong sales for many years forward with the family,” Airbus President and CEO Tom Enders said. “But at this point of time, I have to admit, I didn’t think it would be such a best-seller in only six months after the launch.”

Boeing cited its orders as "evidence of the market's continuing recovery," booking sales across its aircraft family of Next-Generation 737, 767, 777, 787 and the 747-8. The Air Show also served as Boeing's international debut of the 747-8 Intercontinental and 747-8 Freighter – its freighter flew to Le Bourget with all four engines powered by a blend of 15% camelina-based biofuel; the world's first biofuel-powered transatlantic crossing of a commercial jetliner.

"The excitement and enthusiasm for the products and technologies Boeing showcased at the show have validated our belief in the strength of what is the world's newest and most innovative family of commercial airplanes," Boeing International Communications VP Charlie Miller said. "We also highlighted the breadth and depth of our defense business and we met with literally thousands of our key customers, partners and suppliers."
